VLC is a portable multimedia player, encoder, and streamer released under the GNU and has support for a wide variety of audio and video codecs and file formats such as 3GP, AVI, FLV, QuickTime, MP4, Ogg, etc. A great advantage is that the program plays incomplete videos, opens broken videos from BitTorrent and plays ISOs without unpacking the file. It is also well known for being able to play encrypted DVDs on Linux by using the DVD decryption library. The Skin Editor allows designers to create skins for the application without the need of knowing XML or the internal makeup of skins. It provides an easy-to-use interface giving full control over all the skin's features. VLC media player can be used as a server and as a client to stream and receive network streams. The VLS (VideoLAN Server), can stream MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 files, DVDs, digital satellite channels, television channels and live videos on the network in unicast or multicast.
